How long does it take to don heavy armor? ›

Heavy armor is crafted by Armorsmiths. Medium armor is crafted by Leatherworkers. Light armor is crafted by Tailors. If armor pieces are not account bound, then they can be traded between players via the trading post.

Unarmed attacks with Heavy Armor gauntlets do their armor rating in extra damage. Half damage from falling if wearing all Heavy Armor: head, chest, hands, feet. Heavy Armor weighs nothing and doesn't slow you down when worn.

Ascended Armor may be crafted by level 500 Armorsmiths, Leatherworkers, and Tailors. Recipes can be bought from certain merchants (e.g. Master craftsmans) or obtained from opening certain containers or recipe books.

If you wear armor that you lack proficiency with, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can't cast spells.

To level up the Heavy Armor skill most efficiently, wear a full set of Heavy Armor (head, hands, feet, chest). The rate of skill gain is based on the total amount of damage incoming before armor is applied.

Every time you die, your armor becomes less durable. Repair your armor at an equipment repairs NPC or anvil to keep it in peak condition.

Since you never increase stamina as a mage, your carrying capacity never goes up. As a mage, your perks are already spread pretty thin, so grabbing the weightless armor perks are usually a no-go. So most mages go with clothing or light armor at most.

Vanilla light armor is superior to heavy armor. Light armor is slower to level up, weight less so you carry more sprint for longer durations early on, is more stealth friendly (but you can always muffle enchantment so it doesn't really matter), increase stamina regen and negate 10% of incoming damage.

Cleric, Fighter, & Paladin classes all receive Heavy Armor Proficiency as a Class Feat at level 1.

Does blocking increase Heavy Armor? ›

They level up at the same rate. It just depends on whether you block more attacks or let more attacks hit your armor. If you block the majority of attacks then train in heavy armor. If you let most attacks hit your armor then train in block.

Stamina Drain

Without having perks in Heavy Armor, you are penalized for wearing it at all and have your stamina drained.

It's best to start upgrading to Ascended with weapons, as they offer both attribute increases and increased damage because of higher weapon strength, which is especially valuable for Power damage builds.

Ascended gear is the best tier. It's significantly more expensive than exotic gear, as a full set is timegated and costs 200-400 gold to craft. However, it only offers a 12.5% damage increase over exotic gear.

Start charging 25 Quartz Crystal at any hero point once per day, including the Krait Obelisk Shard in the home instance, so you can build up a supply. This is required even if you just want to convert random ascended drops to Celestial stats in the Mystic Forge, if it can't already be selected on them.
